MULKOHA. (THE CUCKOO)
ALL THAT WE SEE. A SERIES CREATED DURING LOCKDOWN 2020
‘All that we see,’ is a suite of large-format digital paintings that reflect the touching points from everyday
and every night thoughts, our relationship with each other in the world around us.
Based in a dreamscape of reality, the series is comprised of imagined scenes with flurries of elements entering
as if scattered through dreams with dominating symbolism – but left in a ‘woke early’ state.
MULKOHA. (THE CUCKOO) finds us in the realm of opportunism.
Symbolic female representation often takes the form of a musical instrument, utilised here as an ornamental
Mariachi Guitar (owned by Frida Kahlo) and combined with a wooden painted model of a Mulkoha Bird (Cuckoo),
who recognises a favourable moment presented to it while safely, but riskily, hidden behind a prickly plant,
as a departing figure appears as disappearing from view.
The telephone is present in order to represent the triangulated communications which become increasingly
complex as scenarios develop, it is also a punctuating metaphor of the increasing passing of time and distance
between parties.
