The Hepworth Wakefield is a fitting tribute to Barbara Hepworth, a leading light in the generation of Sculptors defined by their approach to make us look at things and see things differently. It is there, from the windows that overlook the weir and its fast running water we get a glimpse of the powerful energy contained within nature itself.
Barbara Hepworth mastered the ability to transfer that power and energy transmitted from her natural environment into magnificent works. “I am the form and I am the hollow, the thrust and the contour”, are words expressing this transfer of power.
And most notably “I, the Sculptor, am the Landscape” seem to embed her complete sense of being within our ecosystem. The featured work here is one Edwin says is recalled from looking out at the landscape and juxtaposing the Two Forms created by her, with the algorithms of the energy flow of the waters.
