THE BLUE OBELISK.

ALL THAT WE SEE. A SERIES CREATED DURING LOCKDOWN 2020

‘All that we see,’ is a suite of large-format digital paintings that reflect the touching points from everyday
and every night thoughts, our relationship with each other in the world around us.

Based in a dreamscape of reality, the series is comprised of imagined scenes with flurries of elements entering
as if scattered through dreams with dominating symbolism – but left in a ‘woke early’ state.

THE BLUE OBELISK is the underpinning element in this exciting work.

Symbolically the colourful bird rests upon this icon of creativity awakening the world to the beginning of the new day.

An obelisk is often looked at with phallic observations while the powerful force of the sodalite stone is associated with
positive energy, truth, inner peace and harmony.

Its beautiful colouration reflects that of the bird who is cheekily holding a pair of tantalising ripe cherries while
humorously sporting a tarboosh [Fez]. Other North African imaging contained in stylised palm decoration and shadows
across a cartouche of Morrocan tiles, while Tifinagh glyphs appear in the dust of the background.

The lone figure riding through the dreamscape can be seen as continuing an odyssey in which numerous opportunities
occur as either synchronous or random events.

‘Many curious things I see, when telling fortunes in your tea’ is a fascinating inscription.

Hidden in the rim of the teacup and nestled beside the beautiful image of ‘Hope’ from George Frederick Watts, its story supports our journey of fascination with discovery.

Curiosity with different cultures, meaningful relationships between objects, the unknowns. What secrets lie in the very palm of our hand?

PINK POOL PARTY

This becomes the story of a romantic figure and heroic failure.

The lifesaver on the wall completes three circles arranged in a triangular form which draw us into the story. The small piercing eye on the Flamingo the inflated ring which forms the body of the plastic, lifeless buoyancy aid and the static life-saving device attached to the wall.

It juxtaposes the natural world and natural beauty, against the false brightly coloured consumerist article which floats merrily in the light breeze, alluding to some momentary, short-lived satisfaction.

This full-size work is colourful and questioning.

BIRD DREAM LOVERS.

ALL THAT WE SEE. A SERIES CREATED DURING LOCKDOWN 2020

Based in a dreamscape of reality, the series is comprised of imagined scenes with flurries of elements entering

BIRD DREAM LOVERS reflects the pursuit of happiness through simple love but reminds us of the painful
complexities it can bring through time.

The visual vocabulary provides simple clues to playful lovers in search of the Baetylus represented in the
Emesa temple. But they can’t foresee the disrupted vase and withering shrub of deterioration.

However handsome bountiful beginnings are, with lush foliage representing adventures in different directions
and exotic locations, the symbolic memorial to Yves St Laurent in the Jardin Majorelle which he and his lifelong
partner Pierre Bergé cultivated, remind us of loss and remembrance.

STATION TO STATION takes us through the journey we all begin with our first breath.

When it fuels our lungs and pumps oxygen into the motor, engine room and control system which is our being.

The lifestyle we choose or one bestowed upon us, the venture through love and loss, sampling things from the
world around us, dealing with discord and disruption.

The visual vocabulary includes references to Ed Ruscha, the Judgement of Paris, Aphrodite
and the Trojan war, David Lynch and Claude Monet at Giverny.

NIGHT RIDE TO LOVERS ROCK.

NIGHT RIDE TO LOVERS ROCK is a vanitas work depicting the individual and circular need for
sexual fulfilment within our routine.

The ancient ‘Baetyl’ or Lovers Rock is a sacred stone that was kept by Aphrodite near her temple at Palaeopaphos.
Specifically, it was visited by those seeking the pleasures that come with heightened virility and desire.

After dark is one of the most frequent time-spaces for encounters and coital activities.

The horse riding characters provide an urgency of movement and imply ever-changing players within the
same life process. Also, a small but significant reminder included here shows the moon in
waning crescent phase reminding us of the rhythm in the passing of time and our own mortality.

Implying maybe, we must just get in the saddle and get on with it.

MULKOHA. (THE CUCKOO)

MULKOHA. (THE CUCKOO) finds us in the realm of opportunism.

Symbolic female representation often takes the form of a musical instrument, utilised here as an ornamental
Mariachi Guitar (owned by Frida Kahlo) and combined with a wooden painted model of a Mulkoha Bird (Cuckoo),
who recognises a favourable moment presented to it while safely, but riskily, hidden behind a prickly plant,
as a departing figure appears as disappearing from view.

The telephone is present in order to represent the triangulated communications which become increasingly
complex as scenarios develop, it is also a punctuating metaphor of the increasing passing of time and distance
between parties.
